On 16 July 2026, the Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences (RIMS) hosted a delegation from the University of Caen Normandie, France, led by Professor Christophe Rochais, vice president for research, and Professor Eric Leroy du Cardonnoy, vice president for international affairs. The group also included Dr Julien Gibelin, lecturer and international relations coordinator at the Faculty of Science, and Ms Stéphanie Gouttry, international development manager.
At RIMS, the visitors were welcomed by Director Yoshinori Namikawa, Professor Akio Tamagawa, Professor Narutaka Ozawa, and Program-Specific Researcher Benjamin Collas, principal coordinator of the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) International Research Network (IRN) "Arithmetic & Homotopic Galois Theory (AHGT)", which brings together RIMS and partner institutions in France.
The meeting began with an overview of RIMS by Professor Namikawa, followed by Program-Specific Researcher Collas's presentation on the activities of AHGT. Professor Rochais then introduced the University of Caen Normandie, outlining its research and educational activities.
The participants then exchanged views on future academic collaboration, opportunities for joint research, and the promotion of reciprocal exchanges of researchers and students.
Afterwards, the group gathered in front of the RIMS building for a commemorative photograph, concluding the meeting in a warm and cordial atmosphere.
Both RIMS and the University of Caen Normandie hope to continue exploring opportunities for academic exchange, with a shared commitment to advancing international research in the mathematical sciences.
